Antenna tilt is a powerful mechanism for optimizing cellular networks. This work discusses how the base station antenna can be used as a self-tuning mechanism for load balancing and provides a optimization of link parameters that can be incorporated into current and future cellular networks. Research has shown that antenna tilt can be a good mechanism to balance neighboring cells and thus improve the level of service (GoS). Also, different tilt adjustment techniques and their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. It has been determined that the antenna tilt can be used effectively for personal operations and therefore potential interference and disadvantages are discussed.
